I found so many sources when writing my paper but the one that stood out to me was this episode from fox news and the whole idea against critical race theory. I think that it was important to talk about the lack of acknowledgment of black excellence and innovation in American books, and most importantly how the racist laws from early America still play an effect in today's society. The enforcement of American innocence in our history books has shaped the community of "proud Americans" who still wave the confederate flag, believe in conservative values and keep closed-minded.
America, a proud nation that stood up for itself against the British when they felt that they were being mistreated and taken advantage of. The same nation whose greediness led to them stealing indigenous land, exploiting slaves for work, dehumanizing Native Americans, massacring Native Americans and taking away the freedom of anyone who was not a White Cisgender American. The actions done by early Americans have never been clearly taught in history courses therefore, is it really American history? History books and media have played a racial and socioeconomic bias that manipulates Americans by feeding their heads with the racist ideas they crave and misleading the truth. Fox News has become a famous entertainment outlet that supports the ideas of Americans from the south, such as the problems with critical race theory, abortion laws, gun control, and the coronavirus pandemic.
Rich white men have manipulated the rest of white America to believe that they are being marginalized and getting their freedoms taken away by the Democratic party in America. Laura Ingraham from Fox News says “Thus the obvious question, why should we send our tax dollars to schools that end up teaching our kids to hate the country? So, by choosing an aggressive secular humanist focus, which is now laced with critical race theory, teachers and administrators have created their own taxpayer-funded fiefdoms of radicalism” (Ingraham, L., & Blanchard, L. (2021)). Just as how Fox News is able to make false accusations and has their audience believe them, is exactly how history books create the idea of a separated America where white people are seen as smart and brave, and black people as uneducated, and incapable. American History books continue to glorify the actions of white men, and disregard the contributions made by black Americans that continue to better our life on a daily basis.

Hi, I really enjoyed your blog post as I believe that police brutality has become an issue. With the way people are judged based on their appearances leads to many issues to begin with. The common stereotypes put forth the stigma that white and black people are different people which leads to violence.
ReplyDeleteInteresting source. I appreciate that you chose a different media than the usual journal to recommend to us college students lol
