Viruses and diseases have their own ways of spreading amongst a population and at their own
rate. In 2019, the discovery of first Coronavirus infections was detected in Wuhan China, and
was believed to have been through one of Wuhan’s many wet markets. By January of 2020, the
coronavirus was detected in the United States and began to quickly expand just as in many other
countries. By March of 2020, the epidemic had become a pandemic that led to the shutdown of
many countries. President Trump played down the seriousness of the virus, and constantly
blamed China for the pandemic, instead of finding a way to stop the spread. President Trump
began to refer to the Coronavirus as the “Kung Flu”, and “Chinese Virus”, creating a rise in
racist harassment against Asian-Americans and China. Asian Americans were seen as hostile
and quickly experienced racially motivated violence and hatred by Americans, polarizing the
country even further. The Asian-American community deserves an apology from the United
States Government on behalf of the Trump Administration for creating a rise in racist
harassment against Asian-Americans due to the usage of racist terminology with regards to the
Coronavirus Pandemic, and to better unionize the country with an ideal environment for
diversity.
I really liked your blog post as it covers important topics of how Trump dealt with the Corona virus. Not only did he respond to the virus completely innappeoiate, but he also disrespecred a nation by showing racist remarks. This most likely led to so many Asian abuses as Trump supporters took things into their own hands in trying to stop the “Kung Flu.”
ReplyDeleteIt is astounding how many horrible things become intertwined with racism. It is never appropriate.
